Travel during the low summer months often means frequent rain and hurricane season. During the low season, hurricanes rarely affect cruise passengers, but rain patterns can cause about 2 to 3 hours per day where it’s cloudy, dark or rainy up on deck or on shore. This typically happens between 1 and 3pm. Popular Bermuda Cruise Ports Hamilton is the island’s busiest port and the capital of Bermuda, almost all cruises to Bermuda make a stop here. Hamilton is known as the commercial center and is typically the best spot for shopping and tracking down amenities. St. George is a historic fort town, known for its 17th century architecture and deep history. The city is home to numerous small museums and boutiques that cater to the cruise ship market. The West End is another frequent port stop. It used to belong to the British Royal Navy and was home to the Royal navy Dockyard. Today, it’s a restored area complimented by museums, gift shops, art galleries and even a crafts market. Shore Excursions Most shore excursions on cruises to Bermuda focus on physical activities like scuba diving, snorkeling, horseback riding or golfing. Tours of the ports and island interiors are also available. For most shore excursions on Bermuda cruises you can expect to pay anywhere from $25 to $175 USD. What to Pack for a Bermuda Cruise First and foremost, you’ll need your valid passport and your booking confirmation number. Everything else is gravy. Ideally though, you want clothes that will take you from the pool to the dining hall to urban centers. Focus on clothes that pack small, are resistant to wrinkling and are also versatile. Remember, some cruises require formal evening wear, so check the dining room rules before you pack. Tipping in Bermuda Tipping on board the ship is typically done at the end of your voyage, however your ship steward will let you know the protocol for your particular vessel. However, all cruises to Bermuda will make port calls where you’ll be expected to tip service professionals. Most hotels and tourist restaurants in Bermuda will automatically add a service charge to the bill. Otherwise, the standard rate is 15 percent for food service and 10 to 15 percent for taxi drivers.
