Canada/New England cruises are quickly growing in popularity as a close-to-home option for North American cruisers who want to enjoy the amenities of cruising without the need to travel to Port Canaveral. They also offer an excellent chance to see the region. For an overview of the major cruise lines offering regular Canada/New England cruises, keep reading. Carnival Cruises Carnival cruises offers sailors 4 and 5-night Canada/New England sailings that start at a very reasonable $350 and increase in price from there. For a trip that includes meals and onboard accommodations without the need to tack on airfare, the Carnival sailings represent a great value. Carnival does offer a 9-day exploration of Quebec that leaves from New York City and then makes its way all the way up to the glaciers of Havre-Saint-Pierre in Quebec. This cruise starts at about $1000 for an interior cabin and is only offered in late summer. Holland America Line Most of Holland America’s New England and Canada cruises are a weeklong and depart from Montreal or Boston. Their itineraries cover either the New England coastline or the Canadian Maritimes. Their prices start at about $800 and up for an interior cabin. In the autumn and later summer months, Holland America also offers several 10-night Canada/New England cruises that depart from New York and stop at Newport, Boston, Bar Harbor, Halifax, Sydney, Charlottetown, Ville Saguenay and the stunning Quebec City. There are only three sailings of this itinerary scheduled for 2009. Norwegian Cruise Line Though most of their North American cruises don’t start until July, Norwegian Cruise Line does offer Canada/New England cruise sailings through the incredibly beautiful autumn season. Most of their sailings are 5-nights and start at about $450 for an interior cabin. The Norwegian itinerary typically departs from Philadelphia, runs up to Saint John, New Brunswick and then ends in either Boston or Philadelphia. Princess Cruises Like Norwegian Cruise Line, Princess doesn’t start their New England and Canada cruises until July, but they run their sailings well into the fall. Most of their New England itineraries are 7-nights and start at about $900 for an interior cabin. The Princess Canada/New England cruises usually depart from New York and runs up through Maine and then on to Halifax, Nova Scotia and back again. Because Princess is considered a luxury line, these sailings aren’t recommended for children. Royal Caribbean International Royal Caribbean offers unique 8-day Canada/New England cruises. These sailings tend to start at around $1000 for an interior, though last minute deals are available.
