A Guide to Finding the Best Cruise Deals and Prices

Cruise Scenes You'll Love

The best cruise prices aren’t always easy to find. If you’re looking for a great cruise at the best price, keep reading for some tips on how to find it.

Shop Early or Shop Late

The best deals for cruises are often scored when you book very early (up to 6-12 months in advance) or very late (next week, anyone?).  If you do score a discount for booking early, keep an eye on the price of the passage because if it drops, some lines will give you the lower price. The catch is, you have to ask.

If a sailing date is approaching and the cruise line hasn’t filled a ship, they’ll often start throwing in freebies like free airfare, onboard ship credits, free airport transfers or heavily discounted rates as a way to entice customers to make a booking.

Shop Online

If you’re shopping for your special cruise deals online, check the rates at more than one site. The same cruise can vary in price by as much as 50% depending on who’s selling it.

Most major all-purpose sites for travel will feature a cruise search feature or you can try cruise-specific advice. Another great place to look for bargains and deals? The cruise line home page.

Sign Up for Email Alerts

Yes, email alerts can be annoying, but by signing up for cruise bargain alerts from various cruise lines you can stay on top of hot, members-only deals that are hard to pass up.

You can also try signing up with sites like Cruisecritic.com for their weekly newsletter which highlights the best cruise prices going out this month.

Go in the Off Season

Typically, if school is out then the rates will be higher. The best cruise prices can be found during the shoulder seasons, typically in the fall and spring.

For European cruises, the shoulder seasons run from September to November and then again from April to Early June. In Alaska, it’s May and September and in the Caribbean, you’ll find the best deals from September through to mid-December.

Buy in an Empty Boat

Typically, the Hawaiian and Caribbean cruise runs tend to have the emptiest cabin, which means they can offer the best cruise deals.

Try Repeat Customer Deals

If you’ve sailed with a cruise line before, you may be eligible for a repeat customer deal. These discounts typically aren’t available when you book online, but you can call the cruise line directly and tell them the price you found online.

Look for Repositioning Cruises

Some of the best cruise prices can be found on repositioning cruises, these are voyages when the boats move seasonally from one area of the world to another. They often offer great value and a slower pace, but be prepared for a long voyage.
